At a time when all opposition parties as well as a partner in ruling alliance, Shiv Sena, have upped their ante against the union government over the issue of demonetisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an unexpected support from one of the prominent Left leaders, Vishwas Utagi.

Utagi, vice president of All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), has termed the decision of demonetisation as "historical" and "revolutionary".

Utagi, known as a voice of the Left in baking sector, claimed that Modi had to announce the decision of demonetisation to prevent large scale counterfeit currency notes from pouring into India by Pakistan.

He claimed that "an enemy country" had planned to inject fake currency notes worth of Rs 25 lakh crore into Indian banking system till March 2017.
